Oil Pulling

Oil pulling is a natural and traditional way to whiten your teeth. The simple technique also cleans and detoxifies your teeth and gums.  Similar to oil pulling for the skin, the oil easily cuts through plaque and removes toxins without disturbing the teeth or gums. It can even help with gingivitis and tooth sensitivity.

Oil pulling is easy to do at home. It should be done first thing in the morning before eating.  Follow these simple steps.

  1. Put 1-2 table spoons of a vegetable based oil (coconut oil, olive oil or grape seed oil) into your mouth.
  2. Gently swish it around for 10 to preferable 20 minutes
  3. Spit the oil out into a trash can, not your sink. Oil will clog your sink. Do not swallow the oil.
  4. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with warm water
  5. Brush your teeth normally

Oil pulling should not replace your routine dental visits or at home oral care. Oil pulling does not reverse tooth decay or fix any pre-existing problems. Ask your dentist if oil pulling is right for you.  While there is not enough scientific proof to say that oil pulling works for everyone, it will not harm you. If used in conjunction with regular brushing, flossing and dental visits, it is a great natural oral care method.
